Mid-North is hosting an open community meeting to give an update on the proposed Francis Parker expansion as well as to hear a community led proposal that is an alternative to Parker’s plans to demolish a significant courtyard building on West Belden Avenue.
Since we last met, the Mid-North Association Board communicated in person to Alderman Knudsen on May 11, 2026, during a meeting at the Alderman’s office, that the MNA Board unanimously opposes Parker’s proposals. A copy of the letter which put in writing what was communicated directly to the Alderman is posted on our website.
The feedback that Mid-North has received and continues to receive has been overwhelming opposed to the destruction of a historic building and expansion onto Belden as well as to the stadium lights.
Furthermore, since the meeting run by Parker at Parker, Alderman Knudsen and Mid-North have both been presented a growing petition of opposition. The petition has over 2,000 signatures of opposition, of which approximately 70% are from the 43rd Ward. This opposition stands in stark contrast to the approximately 282 letters supporting the project in the 43rd Ward conveyed in the 43rd Ward newsletter.
Mid-North Association believes a transparent process requires understanding potential alternative options and ongoing feedback. We have been made aware of a viable alternative expansion plan that avoids destruction of a historic multi-family building, decimation of good family housing, and the elimination of property taxes from the City’s revenue streams. This proposal will be presented at the meeting and is being made by a 43rd ward resident with over 40 years of experience in property development, including on Lincoln Park West.
